CE 210 Computers in Civil Engineering
Project
|
|
| Objective |
| The objective of the computer project is to demonstrate
that the student can produce a complex, complete, coherent engineering
report. The subject matter is of secondary importance but the final product
should make evident the students’ use of Word, Excel, a PowerPoint presentation
and a Web posting. The creation of YOUR individual Web homepage is an essential
part of the course and project. |
|
| Parameters |
-
You are to research and purchase (not really) an upscale computer system
and a less expensive alternative.
-
Explain what is to be included such as CD-ROM, amount of RAM, size of monitor
etc. Be very specific and provide plenty of detail.
-
Explain why you made a decision e.g. a 15" monitor vs. a 20" monitor.
-
Cost out everything. Start at the high end and state a second, less expensive
system and what you would have to give up to get the price down.
-
Compare various items and various systems from difference manufacturers
and/or from the same manufacturer and different performance specs. This
is an excellent opportunity to use tables and graphs.
-
Be sure to use the elements listed in your CE210 notes such as tables,
equations, scans, organizational charts, WordArt, graphs, table of contents,
etc. Do it all.

| Web Page |
-
Every CE student at Cal Poly must have a Web page.
- Go to Yahoo/GeoCities for a free web page.
-
All students at Cal Poly have an e-mail address consisting of your first
name initial, your middle name initial followed by @csupomona.edu For example,
if your name is John Wayne Smith, then your e-mail address is jwsmith@csupomona.edu
-
In order to access your e-mail you need your address and your password.
Your password is available in one of two ways.
-
The FIRST time (and only the first time) that a student registers, his/her
password is printed on the class list.
-
If this information has been lost, or the student does not know his/her
password, contact Janet Rice at B1-208, which is on the ground floor of
the CLA with Cal Poly ID.
